The Booth Street Bridge

The Booth Street Bridge

Heavy Civil Infrastructure

The Booth Street Bridge project forms part of the larger City of Ottawa’s Confederation Light Rail Line Development. A generational landmark in infrastructure, this state-of-the-art LRT system will seamlessly connect Ottawa from east to west and north to south. This particular bridge conveniently reconnects Albert Street and the MacDonald Parkway.

This challenging project in downtown Ottawa involved the construction of a modern four lane bridge over the future Light Rail Transit corridor and operational OC Transpo transitway. The bridge is cast-in-place concrete piers and abutment walls with a 3m high crash wall on the pier adjacent to the LRT tracks. Particular attention and close coordination with OC Transpo during the construction of the piers adjacent to the operational transitway was crucial. The sidewalks for the bridge were finished with a vibrant Canyon Red colored concrete. The project was based on the Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) requiring significant quality control and quality verification engineering of all elements of the project.

Schedule planning and the coordination of material deliveries, concrete pours, and subcontractors were major components in the success of this project.
