Centre
Block Underground Services Building

Value:
$ 11 300 000

Owner:
Public Works and Government
Services Canada

Completed:
August 1998

Project Description:
This project
involved the construction of a two storey below grade structure adjacent
to and in part below the Centre Block on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
A significant challenge to the project was the completion of the massive
rock removal to the heritage structure during the summer recess.
The structure consists of a heavily reinforced concrete frame which will
house the new electrical distribution for Parliament Hill, communication
centres, workshops and storage spaces.
This project
had very sensitive historical considerations. Careful mapping of each stone was
required. Boring of ten feet diameter tunnel through the rock under the building and
the blasting adjacent to the building required detailed sophisticated monitoring.
There was a heavy involvement with heritage groups.
The project was formally partnered with great success. |
