Cost-Effective Underground Solutions --
Representing Taggart Quality

Taggart Constructions competence in underground
construction stands heads above the competition -- and its five decades of successful
projects prove it.

Transitway

The Regions transitway is a centerpiece project which illustrates the firms
versatility and skill. One large depressed section, in particular, required rock cuts
seven metres deep. The undertaking also showcases the firms productive alliance with
Doran Contractors, which built many transitway stations.

Sewers and Water Mains

In a typical challenge, Taggart Construction surmounted the difficulties and the risks of
placing five pipes under the Rideau River during severe winter conditions. Working from
barges, the firm excavated the trench and used divers to install a water main and sanitary
sewers. The project was a huge success - completed safely and ahead of schedule while
maintaining rigorous environmental standards.

Municipal Works

For the Acres Road pumping station, Taggart Construction employed a creative technique to
deal with unstable soil below the water table - successfully eliminating the cost and
risks of shoring. Sinking a succession of concrete rings to form caissons, the firm was
able to construct a wet well with a depth and width of 20 metres - one of the largest in
Canada.

Roads

In west Ottawa, Taggart Construction brought cost-efficient solutions to the complicated
problems of building a road be for Highway 416 under railway tracks. Excavation in
sensitive leda clay was accomplished after undertaking the installation of an extensive
system of cement/bentonite cut-off walls and reinforced concrete diaphragm walls,
supported by numerous rock anchor tie-backs, using tremie-placed concrete slurry wall
techniques. Pre-stressed, pre-cast concrete panels provide an architectural finish to the
completed retaining walls. |
